Smiley Firefighter Injured
https://www.gofundme.com/newport-fire-captain-dave-smiley-jr-support

On the early morning of March 14th 2019, Volunteer Fire Captain Dave Smiley Jr. of Minquas Fire Company in Newport DE, sustained 2nd an 3rd degree burns on approximately 10% of his body. This occurred while fighting a fire in Mill Creek DE area. Captain Smiley became trapped after falling through the 2nd floor into the 1st floor. He is currently in Crozer Burn Center in Upland PA. Captain Smiley has a long road to recovery, due to the injuries that occurred during the Fire.

Firefighter Smiley is a Full Time Professional Firefighter at the Lebanon City Fire Department IAFF Local 1952. Firefighter Smiley is an avid Volunteer and has donated years of his time to serve his community with the following companies: Good Will Fire Co. #2 of West Chester PA, Boothwyn Fire Co. #1 of Upper Chichester PA, Minquas Fire Company of Newport DE. Captain Smiley is also an avid Fire Photographer at Nozzle Nut Photography, and on his YouTube channel @Goodwill2ndin.

This fundraiser is THE ONLY Go Fund Me fundraiser for Fire Captain Smiley's medical and living expenses. Nobody is sure how long his recovery will be, or how long he will be out of work.

Dave Smiley Sr. has been the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator for Thornbury Township for over 30 years. This tragic event happened to his son. If you would like to help his family, we wanted to provide a way. Prayers are welcome, too.

Part of making your emergency plan is staying informed.

Chester County's official source for emergency information and government notifications. ReadyChesCo allows subscribers to register to receive emergency and non-emergency alerts for their community. The system, powered by Everbridge, incorporates greater technological capabilities and flexibility. The Department of Emergency Services will be able to contact thousands of residents and business in seconds, when seconds matter.

With the busy lives that everyone lives, no one has the time or the energy to think about an emergency – until it happens. Then, the stress of the situation is compounded because they don’t know what is happening, what they should do to protect themselves or their families, and they have no idea where to turn to get current and/or accurate information. That is the whole purpose behind ReadyChesco. Once you sign up, you will never have to give it a second thought because information is automatically disseminated to you in a format that you choose.

Here are some key components of the system:
• Citizens choose how they receive information (email, cell phone, home phone)
• Citizens choose what areas they receive information about (where they work, live, areas frequently visited)
• Citizens choose what types of information they want to receive (County-wide alerts, road closures, weather emergencies, etc.)
• If a citizen does not want to receive some types of information during the overnight hours, they can establish a “do not disturb” time frame

The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department takes its role in emergency preparedness very seriously. After the Bellingham incident occurred, the police department was inundated with telephone calls from residents requesting an update on the incident and the requests quickly overwhelmed our ability to respond. That experience taught us that communication with the public in a true emergency situation must occur through a single source. Simply put, if we have a major incident we will not have the time or manpower to communicate via our officers, our Facebook page, CRIMEWATCH, etc. We will simply post a note on all other sources telling them to visit the ReadyChesco site for further information.
We want to get our citizens prepared and ready for a major incident NOW so that we can focus all of our resources on responding to the incident or disaster.

You and your family deserve to be prepared for an emergency and ReadyChesco is the method to accomplish that. Sign up today.
